China to develop Hainan Island into international tourist destination

The Chinese government is making plans to develop Hainan Island into an international tourist destination like Bali or Hawaii.

Hainan is a popular tourist destination for domestic Chinese travelers and is China’s only tropical island resort. The island received around 20 million visitors in 2008, with just 1 million of them coming from outside of China.

Hainan Island is popular with Russian tourists, but it remains to be seen if the island can appeal to other nationalities.
