Bali has been awarded to host the first Asian Beach Games and will be held from 18th to the 26th of October 2008. The competition has the support from the Olympic council of Asia.
The events will be held in several different locations on the island of Bali, Indonesia, including Kuta, Sanur, Pulau Serangan, Tanjung Benoa and Jimbaran.
The sports that will be played include Beach Volley Ball, Surfing, Jet Skiing, Sailing, Wind Surfing, Beah Takraw, Beach Hand Ball, Beach Soccer, Para Gliding, Dradong Boat Racing, Triathlon, Marathon Swimming and the new sport Wood Ball.
The Asian Beach Games are to be held every two years for athletes representing Asian countries. The games should help promote tourism to beach resorts in Asia and sports in general.
The beach games will have 45 participating countries and around 8000 participants.
